Wilde once stated, ""in every first novel the hero is the author as Christ or Faust." There are slight similarities between the stories. In Faust, the lead character makes a pact with the Devil in exchange for knowledge, while in Dorian Grey, the lead makes an unearthly exchange for his beauty to remain timeless. Both characters also seduce a beautiful woman, then later kill her as well as her brother.
