[Around 1953, when Connery was in his early twenties, his friend Robert] Henderson gave him [Connery] a list of books that he felt had influenced modern theatre, including Proust's A la Recherche du Temps Perdu, Stendhal's Charterhouse of Parma, Stanislavski's My Life as Art, and Thomas Wolfe's Looking Homeward, Angel. Again, Connery obtained them from the library and spent hours of heavy reading" (Parker, p. 32)
